The successful candidate will be:
Responsible for SystemsEngineering design and development of commercial avionics equipment including: software defined radios, communication/navigation, transponders, audio systems, servers, and similar hardware.
Able to use a greater knowledge of engineering discipline, processes and tools within the job discipline in order to complete and ensure designs meet requirements.
Interact with internal and external customers and understands the technical and business impacts.
Part of the team flowing down architectural and systems’ level requirements to other technical disciplines including hardware, software, mechanical, and test.
Key/Core Qualifications:
Demonstrated ability in the following System level activities:
Create system level design architectures to meet product design objectives
Translate customer requirements to system level requirements
Failure modes and safety analysis
Timeline/latency/performance analysis and/or modeling
Recommends significant enhancements that improve projects and processes.
Experience with one or more of the following or similar certification standards for design, analysis, development and test:
DO-178B
DO-254
DO-160
Experience in one or more design and development:
Radio architectures
Receiver design (30 MHz to 2 GHz)
Transmitter design (30 MHz to 2 GHz)
On-board computing platform / servers
Baseband processing, algorithm development and Control design
Knowledge of P-25 system and C4FM/CQPSK modulation techniques
Demonstrated proficiency with authoring system level documentation:
System Requirements
Interface Control
Systems Design Documents
Demonstrated proficiency with Requirement Management tools (such as DOORs) and experience with enterprise-level Configuration Management and Defect Management tools
Experience supporting Bid and Proposal / new business opportunities and authoring / presenting technical Papers in the community
Exceptional analytic and problem solving skills
Translates customer requirements into hardware or software specifications
Executes and supports schedules and metrics
Experience mentoring junior engineers
Preferred Qualifications:
Design experience software defined tactical radios (preferred), and/or Com/Nav/Server designs
Experience with computer aided design tools such as:
MathLab, SPICE, ADS
Software Defined Radio waveform definition is a plus
General Avionics or helicopter pilot experience is a plus
Demonstrated expertise / proficiency in Product development life cycle execution (from requirements development through functional qualification acceptance) is a plus
Knowledge of the following technologies/skills is a plus:
Radio navigation and communications standards; DME, ILS, VOR, GPS, etc.
Tetra system and PI/4DQPSK modulation techniques
Mesh radio's, WiFi, Codec, 3G/4G LTE, Audio Products
Networking standards/ protocols and network designs
Performs functional analysis, timeline analysis, detail trade studies, safety analysis, FMEA, requirements allocation, and interface definition studies
Design-to-Cost, Design-to-Test and Design-for-Manufacturing
Education and Experience:
BS EE or equivalent. MS EE preferred.
10+ years of experience in avionics or product development
Avionics certification/qualification or similar experience needed
