Original US Military chemical agent detection kit was used to detect the presence of blood, blister and nerve agents in both liquid and vapor form.
The M256A1 is a Chemical Warfare (CW) vapor detection kit for Nerve, "H" series Blisters, Lewisite and Blood Agents. It has been used by our ground troops as well as EOD and NBC Teams for decades. Due to the compactness of the kits and ease of use, ground troops are able to carry several of these on their person, allowing them to perform rapid area surveys to detect the release of a CW agent. only to detect the presence of the agent. When M8 paper comes into contact with liquid "G" series Nerve agents, the paper will turn a yellow to Amber color. When exposed to liquid VX Nerve agent, the paper turns green. When exposed to liquid "H" Series Blister agent, the paper turns red.
INFO ON SKIN DECONTAMINATION KIT:
M258A1 SKIN DECONTAMINATING KIT The M258A1 kit will decontaminate skin and selected personal equipment that has been contaminated with chemical agents. The kit is housed in a plastic waterproof case with a metal strap hook for easy attachment to clothing or equipment such as the mask carrier. The kit consists of three Decon 1 towelette wipes and three Decon 2 towelette wipes that are sealed in tear-away, impermeable foil packets. The Decon 1 packet has a tab for immediate identification at night. The Decon 1 packet contains a pad prewetted with hydroxyethyl phenol, sodium hydroxide, ammonia, and water. The Decon 2 packet consists of a pad impregnated with chloramine-B and sealed glass ampules filled with a solution of hydroxyethyl, zinc chloride, and deionized water. The glass ampules are enclosed in a mesh bag to prevent injury to fingers or hands when crushing the ampules. The M258A1 kit is used to remove and decontaminate blister and nerve agents from the exposed skin. It can be used to decontaminate the face (except eyes and mouth), mask interior, rubber gloves, or other equipment.
