SOLID WASTE SUPERVISOR
Pay Range: 70 Pay Range: $24.63 to $34.49 per hour DOE/Q plus benefits

FLSA Status: Non-exempt eligible for overtime
Special Requirements: Employee must possess a valid Arizona Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL), or be able to obtain one within six (6) months of hire date. This position may be required to work Tuesday through Saturday, 8:00 A.M. to 4:30 P.M. Must be available to work overtime, nights, weekends, and holidays.
Training and Experience: Education and/or experience equivalent to four (4) years full time solid waste collection, recycling operations or closely related work. One year of supervisory experience preferred.
Essential Duties: Under the direction of the Solid Waste Superintendent, assigns, supervises, and reviews work of subordinates in the collection, disposal and recycling of solid waste; must be able to drive front, side, and rear load collection equipment, rolloff truck, and will collect a residential, commercial or recycle route; oversees the operation and maintenance of the transfer station, surrounding buildings and landfill; inspects, evaluates work in progress, identifies problem areas, directs remedial action; conducts performance evaluations on subordinate staff. Prepares estimates for the staffing, materials, and equipment requirements for projected work activities; approves purchases of materials and equipment; maintains time, materials and equipment use reports; schedules preventive maintenance and emergency repair of collection vehicles; requisitions tools, supplies, materials and equipment; trains staff in safety procedures; conducts daily safety meetings. Mandatory overtime for nights, weekends, and special events may be required.
Knowledge and Other Characteristics: Knowledge of Federal, State and City of Prescott rules, regulations, policies, procedures and ordinances related to solid waste management and recycling programs. Knowledge of basic supervisory methods and techniques; occupational safety and health policies and procedures related to solid waste management. Knowledge of the operation of all solid waste collection apparatus and equipment.
Skill in: Supervising, evaluating, training and motivating employees; operating and working around moving equipment; planning, prioritizing, and directing the maintenance of vehicles and equipment; following safety practices and recognizing hazards; written communications for administrative and technical purposes; oral communication in one-on-one and group situations; utilizing public relations techniques in responding to inquiries and complaints; establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with State, Federal, and other local officials, elected officials, subordinate staff, and City residents; proficiency in writing of memos, policies, directives, and educational material; sales and marketing for commercial solid waste services.
Physical and Visual Ability: Sufficient to effectively and safely perform required duties and to safely operate required equipment and city vehicle as needed. Must be able to see clearly, with correction if necessary, during both day and evening hours and in potentially adverse weather conditions.
Hearing and Speaking Ability: Sufficient to clearly, concisely and effectively communicate in person and over the telephone.
